Swimming Pool Inspection Services was called out to inspect a Point Venture, TX swimming pool to determine the existing state of the escutcheons (a flat piece of metal used for protection – in this case around the bases of the grab rail and ladder), and if there was a way for them to be removed without breaking up the concrete.

Our inspector met with the insured who stated that hail had damaged the grab rail and ladder escutcheons. The insured explained that new escutcheons had been ordered, but the ladder and rails could not be removed from the anchors in order to replace the escutcheons.

The insured explained that attempts had been made to remove the ladder and rails, but they were unsuccessful.

Pool Inspection Observations

Our inspector performed a thorough inspection of the swimming pool and surrounding areas, with specific attention given to the escutcheons and observed that some escutcheons were still in place but damaged, and some were completely destroyed or gone.

Analysis of Point Venture, TX Inspection

Our inspector concluded that the main issue would be removing the ladder and rails. Our inspector warned that in order to remove the rail from its anchor, the ladder and rails themselves might be compromised, and if that were to happen, they ladder and rails would have to be replaced altogether. Our inspector recommended having them removed by a professional, but warned that even with a ladder professional’s help, they might still be damaged int he removal process.

Conclusion of Point Venture Pool Inspection

In the professional opinion of our pool inspector, he believes that the escutcheons were damaged by hail, and that at the very least, the escutcheons that were damaged would have to be removed and replaced. In addition he noted that removal of the escutcheons may result in damage to the pool ladder and rails.
