Swimming Pool Inspection in Manheim, PA

Swimming Pool Inspection Services is called out to inspect an above-round pool that collapsed after a wind storm. Our inspector visited the property in question and spoke with the insured. The insured explained that the pool had been closed as usual for the winter, but that it had buckled after a storm with a lot of wind. The insured also explained that about a month before the pool wall buckled, he had checked and found the water level up and all looked good.

Observations Made During Inspection

Our inspector performed a thorough inspection of the pool and adjacent areas and made the following observations:

  • A large section of the pool wall was buckled.
  • The locking track was broken.
  • The uprights and top rails were in good condition.

Analysis of Manheim, PA Inspection

Our inspector noted that typically when a pool wall has buckled in the winter it is because of ice and snow either in the pool or on the cover. In such cases, the top rails and uprights are also bent. However, because the uprights and top rails on this pool were still in good condition, our inspector stated that either a very small hole existed in the liner prior to the pool being closed, or that debris may have blown into the pool during a storm.

Our inspector also noted that an above ground pool gets its strength from within when it is full of water. If the water level drops, the pool is no longer able to withstand strong winds from the outside.

Cause of Loss in Manheim, PA Above-Ground Pool Inspection

It was the opinion of our inspector that a small tear developed in the liner, which gradually drained the water out of the pool. With water missing from the pool, our inspector believed it was possible that a windstorm could have caused the pool to collapse.
