Peoria, AZ Swimming Pool Inspection

Swimming Pool inspection Services was recently called out to inspect a swimming pool in Peoria, AZ that had been damaged. Our inspector spoke with the insured who stated that he came out one morning and noticed that pool water was discolored. Upon further investigation, it turned out that three buckets of material had been dropped in the pool. The insured explained that all three buckets were floating in the water, and that there were two buckets of red dye and one bucket of a thick, oily substance.

The insured explained that he removed the buckets from pool and placed them in the yard. The insured stated that he reported the vandalism to the police and filed a report. His pool company then drained the pool.

Swimming Pool Inspection and Observation

Our inspector conducted a thorough investigation of the swimming pool in question, as well as the adjacent deck areas, and made the following observations:

  • Various damage was caused by the introduction of a colorant (which appears to be concrete dye) into the pool.
  • The colorant damaged the interior surface of the pool, adjacent pool decking, stone, audio speaker, cartridge within pool filter and waterline tile and grout.

Analysis of Damaged Pool

Because the insured’s pool company drained the pool after the damage occurred, it was not possible for our inspector to ascertain how the colorant was introduced into the water because the pool was drained and the colorant containment was sitting adjacent to the body of water.

Cause of Loss in Peoria, AZ Swimming Pool

While it was clear that the damage was caused by the three buckets of concrete dye and oil, it is not possible for our inspector to determine how those buckets came to be in the pool. However, he did point out that due to the property being situated on a corner lot, that it was possible for the buckets to have been thrown in from the sidewalk, making the insured’s claims of vandalism a realistic possibility.

In order to repair this pool, our inspector noted that the pool would need to be entirely cleaned of any remaining colorant, which may prove to be a difficult task.
