Walbridge, OH Swimming Pool Inspection
When an above-ground pool in Walbridge, OH suddenly starts losing water, Swimming Pool Inspection Services is called out to inspect the pool and determine the cause of the damage. Our inspector spoke with the homeowner who stated that he had opened his above ground pool prior to Memorial Day, and shortly thereafter, after cleaning the pool, he returned a few hours later to see approximately 1 foot of water left in the pool and a tear in the liner near the floor.
Pool Inspection Observations
Our inspector performed a thorough inspection of the pool and surrounding areas and made the following observations:
- The pool was an 18’ above ground pool with a low-quality overlap liner.
- The liner had significant chemical damage, was very brittle, and appeared to have shrunk.
- The liner had been torn in the past, and had been repaired with a patch.
- The liner was torn on the floor near the wall seam.
- The sand under the tear had washed away due to the water flowing out.
- The post support moved and the walls of the pool are no longer level or in the proper position.
- No sharp objects were found under the hole in the liner.
Analysis of Pool Damage
After performing the inspection, our inspector determined that the liner was likely damaged during the initial cleaning and as the liner leaked, the tear expanded. Ou inspector also noted that the previous homeowners did not take care of the liner, and that the significant chemical damage had shortened its life expectancy and contributed to the occurrence of the recent tear. While the insured may not have purposely caused, or even noticed that he caused the damage, this liner was well beyond its life expectancy and needed to have been replaced.
Cause of Loss in Walbridge, OH Pool Inspection
Our inspector determined that the damage to the liner was the result of long-term chemical damage, as well as age.
In order to properly repair this pool, the existing liner would need to be removed, the walls and supports re-leveled and squared, the floor repaired and sand brought in to make up for the washed away sand, and a new overlap liner installed.
