Wheatland, CA Pool Inspection
After a fiberglass pool in Wheatland, CA develops a sudden crack, Swimming Pool Inspection Services was called out to determine the cause of the crack, as well as to see if any other damage had occurred to the pool.
Inspection Observations
Our inspector visited the property and spoke with the insured, who stated that he tried to repair the crack with putty, but that it didn’t hold properly. Our inspector performed a thorough inspection of the pool and surrounding areas, and made the following observations:
- The pool was a fiberglass Classic pool.
- The crack was about a foot long in the deep end below the steps.
- The insured’s attempted putty repair could be seen.
Analysis of Pool Damage
After thoroughly inspecting the pool and discovering it was from the Classic Pools company, our inspector noted that there have been many problems with this company over the years. The company is no longer in business, but had been well known for poor craftsmanship and quality, among other problems. Our inspector noted that even after repairs have been made on a Classic Pool, it was not uncommon for them to either become damaged again in the area where a repair had already been made, or to develop other issues. Because of this, our inspector and may others do not even do repairs on Classic Pools.
In addition to the issues with a low-quality pool, our inspector noted that it was difficult to tell hat may have caused the crack, but once the pool was removed from the ground, the cause of the damage may have been more visible, such as unloved ground or rocks. He also noted that the character and location of the crack were unusual, and did not reveal anything about its cause. Often, the location or size of a crack will let the inspector know what the issue is; in this case, our inspector felt that there was no way to determine the cause of the damage.
Cause of Loss in Wheatland, CA Pool Inspection
While the direct cause of the damage could not be determined during the inspection, it was the opinion of our inspector that the material of the pool was poor, and that there may have been errors made during its installation.
