- The pool was a vinyl lined, oval pool, and held about 20,000 gallons of water.
- The water level was one foot low.
- There were pool toys and flotation devices in the pool, under the cover.
- There was minor damage to the cover.
- The cover straps were anchored in the grass on one side of the pool.
- There was water behind the liner and the liner was ripped.

After the inspection, our inspector drew the following conclusions, based on his professional expertise:
- The water level was too low for a vinyl lined pool.
- The cover was weakest on the side of the pool where the straps were anchored in the grass, and that is where the cover gave way (improper installation).

It was our inspector’s professional opinion that the cover gave way due to the weight of snow. However, the weakness of the cover was caused by improper winterization of the pool and improper installation of the cover. Unfortunately this damage would require a rather expensive repair, including replacing the liner, and replacing the cover.
