Because the liner was slightly smaller than the pool, it had been stretched to fit, which made it susceptible to tearing. This was the primary cause of the continued tearing and ripping of the liner. Even though the homeowner continued to patch rips as they occurred, new ones continued to show up.
In addition, our inspector found that the chemical balance in the pool was incorrect, which resulted in the liner getting bleached and dried out, which weakened it and made it even more likely to tear.
The poor installation job was the fault of the company that installed the liner; however, the chemical balance in the pool was the homeowner’s responsibility to maintain.
The estimate for replacing the liner in this pool, along with the cost of labor, was $4,600.
