Swimming Pool inspection Services was called upon to inspect a Kansas City, KS vinyl-lined swimming pool. Our inspector visited the property in question and spoke with the homeowner, who stated that landscape rocks were used to hold the cover on the pool, and that a storm had blown the rocks into the pool and damaged the liner. The insured explained that the pool was requiring more water to keep it full than prior to the storm, and that the liner was seven years old.
Inspection Observations
Our inspector performed a thorough inspection of the swimming pool and surrounding areas, and made the following observations:
- The pool equipment appeared to be in good working order.
- Two concrete blocks were found in the bottom of the pool.
- There were no visible tears in the liner and it was holding water.
- There was no “bubbling” at the bottom of the pool (bubbling would have indicated a leak).
- The liner appeared to be at the end of its life.
Analysis of Inspection Observations
In addition to the observations made during the inspection, our inspector noted that the two concrete blocks found at the bottom of the pool should not have been used to hold on the pool cover. Water bags are the recommended method for holding down pool covers.
Our inspector noted that while it is possible that water was escaping slowly through a pinhole in the liner. However, due to the age and condition of the liner, our inspector recommended that the liner be replaced.
Cause of Loss in Kansas City, KS Pool
It was the opinion of our inspector that the condition of the liner was caused by age and normal wear and tear.
