When pool equipment in a San Tan Valley, AZ pool breaks down unexpectedly, Swimming Pool Inspection Services is called out to inspect the equipment and pool, and determine if a recent storm had contributed to the malfunction of the equipment.

Our inspector visited the property in question and interviewed the insured, who was present during the inspection.

The insured explained that there had been a recent storm in the area and up to that point the pump had been working properly. The insured also stated that he had heard a loud noise and after that the pump no longer worked.

Observations Made During Inspection

Our inspector performed a thorough inspection of the swimming pool, equipment, and surrounding areas, and made the following observations:

  • The pool flooring and walls had a greenish appearance.
  • There was no cover on the pool equipment
  • The pump motor was rusted.
  • The quick coating (top coat of paint that protects the metal from damage) on the motor of the pump had worn off.

Analysis of Inspection Observations

It was the opinion of our inspector that covering the pool equipment provides better protection from weather elements. He also stated that the rust on the pump motor was caused by water damage.

He explained that when quick coating starts to wear off, it can be re-painted to prevent rusting and prolong the life of the motor.

However, he noted that the pump motor was damaged beyond repair, and would need to be entirely replaced.

It was the opinion of our inspector that the pump motor ceased to function independent of the storm, and that its failure was caused by age and normal wear and tear.
