Syracuse, NY Swimming Pool Inspection

Swimming Pool Inspection Services was called out to inspect a Syracuse, NY swimming pool that had begun losing water. Our inspector visited the property in question and spoke with the insured. The insured explained that, due to recent rain, the pool’s water level was higher than it had been at the time of loss. The insured also explained that the liner was about two years old.

Inspection Observations

Our inspector performed a thorough inspection of the swimming pool and surrounding areas and made the following observations:

  • There was water in the pool, but it was not full.
  • The water was green/black, with algae and debris.
  • The liner was pulled away from the wall in several places.
  • The seams of the liner showed no manufacturer defect.
  • The liner showed no indications of ice damage, or damage caused by natural elements.
  • It was apparent a hole existed in the liner, yet it was not visible.

Second Inspection

Our inspector visited the above referenced property a second time and drained the pool. Upon draining the pool, a chair and grill brush were found in the deep end. The insured expressed that he was not aware that the items were in the pool. During the second inspection, the following observations were made:

  • The water was drained from the pool, at which point a patio chair and grill brush were discovered in the deep end.
  • The bottom of the pool (under the liner) was breaking up.
  • The liner and wall foam were pulled further away from the wall than in the initial visit.
  • The liner was covered in algae and dirt.

Analysis of Pool Inspections

Our inspector noted that a hole in the liner would have been required to produce the damage that was discovered underneath it. With the shifting of water and ice during the winter, it is very likely the items left in the pool scratched against the liner, and produced a hole (or holes) that allowed the water to escape.

Cause of Loss in Syracuse, NY Swimming Pool

It was the opinion of our inspector that the objects left in the deep end of the pool over the winter scratched the liner, causing water to leak out and the liner to fall away from the walls.
