Inspection of Damaged Manitowoc, WI Pool: Observations
During the inspection, our inspector made the following observations:
- The mechanics of the automatic pool cover appeared to be okay.
- The track for the automatic pool cover was pulled off the concrete wall.
- There was no water in the pool and the cover had collapsed inside.
Analysis of Damaged Swimming Pool
Based on what was discovered during the inspection, our inspector made the following determinations regarding the Manitowoc swimming pool:
- The liner and automatic cover will need to be replaced.
- The track and deck on the house side will need to be replaced.
- The cover would have to be torn off.
- When the thawing process began, the ice in the pool started to move around just like an iceberg. When it did, it scraped the side or the bottom of the pool and tore the liner – causing the water to leak out.
Our inspector was unable to locate the exact source of the leak without being able to open the pool cover.
Cause of Loss and Repair Estimates
Our inspector determined that ice cut the pool liner. This created a leak in the pool, causing the water to drain out. In turn, this caused the automatic pool cover to collapse into the pool due to the lack of water holding the cover up. The weight of the snow and ice on top of the cover pulled the track out of the concrete wall.
Our inspector estimated that replacing the liner would cost around $4,200.00; replacing the pool cover would cost around $2,400.00. Repairing the concrete would cost over $5,000.00. Our inspector estimated a total repair cost of $12,900 to repair this swimming pool.
