Wind Storm in Huntington, IN Damages Above-Ground Pool

Swimming Pool Inspection Services was called out to inspect an above-ground swimming pool that, according to the insured, was severely damaged during a windstorm the previous winter. Our inspector visited the property and spoke with the insured, who stated that the liner had been replaced once since they owned the pool.

Observations in Huntington, IN Swimming Pool Inspection

During the course of the inspection, our inspector made the following observations:

  • The pool was round, 24’x46”, and surrounded by a full deck.
  • The pool was made by Sun-Fun.
  • The wall was detached from most of the uprights.
  • Most of the liner was torn out of the pool.
  • There was a water ring around the bottom of the pool.
  • The pool was winterized and appeared to have been well taken care of.
  • There were broken tree branches about 20 feet from the pool.

Analysis of Pool Damage

Our inspector noted that the date of loss that the insured reported coincided with the date of a storm in the Huntington, IN area, including severe winds at 47 MPH. Our inspector felt that the damage of the pool was consistent with the insured’s report of a wind storm.

Repairing the Pool

After doing some research into repairing this pool, our inspector noted that the pool company Sun-Fun had gone out of business around 2007. Because of this, parts for repairing this pool were unavailable from the now-defunct pool company, or from any nearby pool suppliers, and the entire unit would need to be replaced.

Cause of Loss in Huntington, IN Pool Inspection

After performing a thorough inspection of the pool, decking, and surrounding areas, as well as doing research into the weather conditions in and around Huntington at the time the damage occurred, our inspector determined that the pool damage was caused by a windstorm, as stated by the homeowners.
